Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 5, 2026
Last updated: May 5, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Augur (the “app”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you use Augur on iOS, Android, and the web. Augur is offered worldwide; this policy is designed to comply with applicable data protection and privacy laws in the jurisdictions where we operate, including the EU/EEA GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA (collectively the “CCPA”), other US state privacy laws, Canada's PIPEDA, Brazil's LGPD, Australia's Privacy Act, and similar laws.
By installing, accessing, or using Augur you confirm that you have read this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Who Is Responsible for Your Data
The data controller (or equivalent role under your local law) for personal information processed through Augur is the publisher of the app. For privacy questions, requests, or to reach our privacy contact, see Section 17.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information you provide
Account credentials (such as email address and password or third-party sign-in tokens), profile details, preferences, support requests, and any content you submit through the app.
3.2 Information collected automatically
Device identifiers (such as model, OS version, and a resettable advertising identifier where permitted), app version, language, time zone, network type, IP address (used to derive approximate region), in-app events, performance metrics, and crash diagnostics.
3.3 Information from third parties
If you sign in with a third-party identity provider (such as Apple, Google, or another OAuth provider), we receive the basic profile fields that provider returns, typically name, email address, and avatar.
3.4 Information we do not collect
We do not knowingly collect special categories of data (such as health, biometric, racial, religious, political, or sexual orientation data) and do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera input unless you grant the relevant device permission.
4. Mobile Permissions
Augur requests certain device permissions only when needed for a specific feature. You can grant or revoke each permission at any time from your device's system settings. Typical permissions include notifications, photo library (for media you choose to upload), camera, and approximate or precise location. Denying a permission may disable the related feature but will not prevent the rest of the app from working.
5. Tracking, Advertising, and Analytics
On iOS, Augur honors Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. We do not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies, or access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking purposes, without first obtaining your permission through the iOS prompt.
On Android, you can reset or limit use of the Advertising ID from your device settings, and your choice is respected.
We use privacy-respecting analytics and crash reporting to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. Where required by law, these services run only after you provide consent. We honor recognized opt-out signals (such as Global Privacy Control) where applicable.
6. How We Use Information
We use information to provide and maintain the app; create and authenticate accounts; personalize the experience and remember your preferences; process transactions; send service communications; diagnose crashes and improve performance; detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security incidents; comply with legal obligations; and, with your consent where required, send marketing or product updates.
We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by US state privacy laws.
7. Legal Bases for Processing (EU/EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to deliver the service you request); legitimate interests (to keep the app secure, prevent abuse, and improve our products, balanced against your rights); consent (for optional features such as push notifications, marketing communications, or non-essential analytics); and compliance with a legal obligation. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing performed beforehand.
8. Sharing and Disclosure
We share information only as described below:
• Service providers acting on our behalf (such as hosting, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, customer support, and payment processing), bound by contracts limiting their use of the data.
• Compliance with law, valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
• Corporate transactions such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality safeguards.
• With your consent, or at your direction.
9. International Data Transfers
Augur is offered worldwide, and your information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States and the European Economic Area. When we transfer personal data out of the EU/EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or recognized adequacy decisions. Where required, we also perform transfer impact assessments.
10. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the app, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods vary by data type; for example, account data is kept while your account is active and for a limited period after closure, while diagnostic logs are kept for a short window. Aggregated or anonymized data, which can no longer identify you, may be retained indefinitely.
11. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and least- privilege principles. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
12. Your Rights
12.1 EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland
You have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
12.2 California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used and shared, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and we do not knowingly collect or sell personal information of consumers under 16.
12.3 Other US states (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others)
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws have rights similar to those above, which may include the right to access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy of, and opt out of certain processing of their personal data, including targeted advertising and profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
12.4 Brazil (LGPD)
You have rights to confirmation, access, correction, anonymization, blocking or deletion, portability, information about sharing, and revocation of consent.
12.5 Canada (PIPEDA and provincial laws)
You may request access to and correction of your personal information and may withdraw consent subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
12.6 Australia, New Zealand, and other regions
Residents of jurisdictions including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa, and India have rights granted by their local data protection laws, including access, correction, and complaint rights.
12.7 How to exercise your rights
Submit a request to the contact in Section 17. We will verify your identity before responding and reply within the time required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where the law permits. We will not discriminate or retaliate against you for exercising your rights.
13. Children's Privacy
Augur is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in the United States, under 16 in the EU/EEA (or the lower age set by your member state, which may be as low as 13), or under the equivalent minimum age in other jurisdictions. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
14. Third-Party Services and Links
Augur is built with Expo and may integrate third-party services for authentication, hosting, analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, and similar functionality. These services process data under their own privacy policies. The app may also contain links to websites or services we do not control; we are not responsible for their privacy practices.
15. App Store Disclosures
The information we collect, how it is used, and whether it is linked to your identity is summarized in the “App Privacy” details on the Apple App Store and the “Data safety” section on Google Play. Those summaries are provided in addition to, and consistent with, this policy.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date and, where required by law, notify you in the app or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Augur after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes acceptance of the changes.
17. Contact Us
For privacy questions, requests, or to exercise any right described above, use the contact form on our
support page. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK and feel we have not adequately addressed your concern, you may also contact your local data protection authority.
